In 1984, at the age of 16, Thom Mozloom landed his first TV job; he became an education reporter for a local cable channel outside of Trenton, NJ. The news director of the station thought it might be fun to have students actually report on what was happening in the schools.

This was the first time Thom witnessed the power and impact a truly unique and creative idea can have on individuals. It was a demonstration that would go on to shape the rest of his professional life.

In 2003, after a 20+ year career in television, Thom created The M Network with some principles in mind:

• Do things the right way – be honest, transparent and completely above board in all of our dealings. We are hired by people and organizations because they need help; our job is to give them the best help that we are able to give.

• First and foremost, we are communications experts – our focus must always be on people not on any one specific tactic. Communication is something that happens between people. Video, audio, print, Internet, public relations, etc. All of these other disciplines, while valuable, are merely vehicles that we have mastered in order to help us and our clients communicate to people.

• If there is something valuable to do, something beautiful to create, something inspiring to say or something of worth to many, let’s not wait for a client to come along with the same idea. Let’s find ways to create.

• Create an atmosphere within our company, among our affiliates and between us and our clients that fosters the notions that all people are valuable, that everyone can have a creative idea and that the very manner in which we do our job should make people want to work with us.

• Don’t worry about the money, worry about the quality of our work – There is no need to nickel and dime clients. There is no need to mark-up the work of our subcontractors. There is no need to overbid, overestimate or overcharge for anything. If we do good work, the money will come.

When you think about it though, it’s not the principles that are unique. The unique part is that there is actually a company that was built and continues to thrive on these principles.

“You have to understand the type of life I was living before starting The M Network,” Thom explains, “I worked in a job where I literally kissed my wife and kids goodbye everytime Hurricane was bearing down or some other disaster struck. I literally left them at home to fend for themselves because I needed to go to work. That’s noble if you’re a police officer or rescue worker or have some other job that is critical to other’s survival but, let’s face it, I worked in TV. A lot of this is why I formed my own company. You see, I am no longer willing to sacrifice intelligence or excellence in order to suffocate under the tyranny of the urgent. And, quite frankly, I don’t want anyone else to have to live that way either.”

For the last 25 years, Rusty Wolfe has been making television. Beginning as a news editor at his hometown TV station, Rusty learned the basics of making good television in a deadline heavy environment. After a few years in the “meat grinder” of TV news, he transitioned into the Creative Services/Promotion world where he found an opportunity to flex his creative muscles. Since then, his work has been seen on the airwaves of several local affiliates as well as 2 national cable networks, always with a unique look and style that catches viewers’ attention.

In 2001, he moved further south to Florida, tasked with leading the relaunch of WJXT-TV in Jacksonville. The long-time CBS powerhouse was dropping its network affiliation and going independent. Rusty and his team were tasked with keeping the station’s viewers glued to their screens. His creative approach not only retained their loyal viewership but grew audience as well. That amazing growth continues today under style guidelines he set during the transition.

In 2007, he left broadcast television to work for a small Internet company that produces film, graphic and music libraries for use by broadcast and production outlets. As head of their promotions department, Rusty changed the look and style of their marketing efforts to create a more polished, professional on-line presence. During that time, he also wrote, produced & edited highly acclaimed web ads for a number of national clients, including Adobe and Sony.

Throughout his career, Rusty has received numerous industry award nominations and even has a couple of shiny statues stuck on a shelf somewhere. Because he loves watching television almost as much as he likes making it, Rusty knows what it takes to connect to an audience. Writing, producing, and editing everything from on-air promotion to feature stories, sales presentations to documentaries…if you can watch it on-line or on television, Rusty can make it and make it work for you!

Sara Schermer has been creating advertising her entire life. From a very young age, she would entertain family and friends with her own renditions of TV and Radio ads. As an adult, Sara took this passion and spun it into a successful career that has taken her from radio stations to top advertising agencies as a writer, producer, director, and voice talent.

Sara firmly believes that information enters the body through the heart. Because of this, she often tends to put herself on the consumer end of advertising, in order to ensure that the creative product pushes the end customer’s emotional buttons. “When you get that emotional connection, you’ve struck the loyalty chord in your target audience,” she explains.

With more than 25 years of experience in broadcast advertising and marketing, Sara has had the opportunity to work on a multitude of marketing campaigns for nationally recognized clients such as AutoNation, Papa John’s, La-Z-Boy, Pep Boys, Spirit Airlines, Hospital Corporation of America and Lennar Homes, just to name a few.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Sara is equally comfortable working in English or in Spanish and has received numerous Addy and Telly awards for her work on bilingual and multicultural advertising campaigns. She holds a Master’s degree in Management and has served as an Adjunct Professor of Advertising on the faculty of Florida International University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. A true people person, Sara knows “everybody”
