Meet Erin Lee: Resilient, Independent, Spirited

Film + Video Production, Content Creation

Meet Erin Lee, celebrating a year with The M Network.  Erin is a video and film producer and editor, and we are thrilled to give you a peek into what makes her such a special member of the team.

Q 1. What inspired you to pursue this career, and what has been your proudest production moment?
In high school, I randomly took a cinematography class and realized I had always been storytelling in my head. It felt like the perfect way to bring my creativity to life. My proudest production moment was meeting a Jamaican director/producer who was working with reggae and international artists. I got to collaborate with musicians and reconnect with my Jamaican roots, spending time in Kingston.

Q 2. You also spent time in the boxing ring. What do you get out of boxing, and how has it shaped you?
This is something I did in my late 20s. It felt like a safe space, and I loved the camaraderie I had with that group at the time. It was really fun, great cardio, and it gave me a lot of confidence.

Q 3. You are a free diver. How cool! What do you love about free diving, and how did you get into that sport?
I came across an article about free diving. I reached out to my cousin on Facebook, and it just turns out that he was at that time getting into video production. So, he taught me how to free dive in Jamaica. I love the feeling of weightlessness. And it’s a meditative exercise—it forces you to calm your mind under pressure.

Q 4. A lot of your vision and inspiration for creativity comes from living in different places in the world. Can you tell us where you were born and your journey to Miami?
I was born in British Columbia, Canada. My mother is Canadian, and my father is Jamaican, and I moved to Miami when I was a baby.

Q 5. You are incredibly calm under pressure. What’s your secret?
I think I’ve just always been that way. I don’t see the point of getting stressed out because it usually makes the situation worse. When I’m under pressure, I try to find the humor in every situation.

Q 6. What inspired you to reach out to The M Network?
I saw on LinkedIn that The M Network was hiring, and it felt right up my alley. My favorite work has always been making the world a better place and working with nonprofits, so it felt like a perfect fit.

Q 7. What’s your guilty pleasure activity in Miami?
My boyfriend is a chef, so he’s always taking me to these fancy places, and I definitely overindulge.

Q 8. If you could be any animated cartoon character, who would it be and why?
I’ve always wanted to be Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen because he can be in many places at once. Sometimes I feel like if there were two or three of me, I’d get so much more done.
