So I was tasked to write a blog and at first I said, “Great – I can do anything!”
At least that’s what I thought. After all it is our motto at The M Network; and truth be told, we really CAN do anything!
Except that as I began thinking about this project my mind started to freak out!
Well, “what is a blog?” Is it the modern day version of an op-ed but only extremely opinionated?
Is it a piece all about me and my experiences? That sounds a little narcissistic and isn’t that what social media is for anyways?
Maybe it’s like the old-fashioned diary or journal?
I embarked on my journey, About A Blog. The first thing that came to mind is to run to my handy Webster’s Dictionary for the definition – well, why not? It’s all about the research. Minor detail, the word blog certainly is not in my version of the dictionary. Next best resource, THE GOOGLE. Google has become our lifeline, the “in case of emergency, break glass” kind of resource.
I’ll try not getting off topic, but that could be my next BLOG subject (note to self).
So here’s what I have come to find out: The word “blog” comes from the word, “web log.” This will resonate with those of us who are old enough to remember when www stood for world without web.
Much to my surprise it turns out that you can blog about anything as long as it’s “engages” the reader. So like a journal it needs to be updated regularly, like a diary it needs to keep the reader captivated, like social media it should be short and sweet, like an op-ed it can strictly be your opinion.
In a nutshell, a blog is all of the above. It can be about your personal experiences, work, animals, food, or even a blog ABOUT A BLOG!
