Upon uploading my bio on the M network website the one question I’ve received most is, “So you used to be a Brazilian breakdance fighter?”
That’s not just a witty comment to make my profile feel fun or mysterious. I have spent the majority of the last 23 years learning the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira, comically known in the U.S. as breakdance fighting.
Not a moment after that thought comes into my mind, I feel the slightest little nudge of a cold nose on my elbow. That is my soft reminder to take a moment and evaluate myself and how I feel in my body. That cold nose I feel is Bindi, my black-out & seizure alert service dog.
When I was a little kid – around 5 or so – I drew a picture. I had drawn many pictures and this one was really no different. It had begun as all the others had: A free, open expression of pure feeling. I enjoyed drawing because of the feeling I had when I drew. It was the act of drawing that was satisfying.
